As residential housebuilders and contractors look for ways to accelerate build programmes while maintaining high installation standards, the choice of underfloor heating (UFH) systems plays a crucial role. For contractors operating on multi-plot developments, ease of handling, precise layouts, and dependable product design can make a significant difference on site.

RMX Mechanical Ltd recently put Polypipe Building Products’ new UFHGRID system to the test on a residential development, providing valuable insights into how the grid solution supports with on-site installation.

    Delivering efficiency on site

RMX Mechanical Ltd is currently sub-contracting on the large-scale Applegate Park, a David Wilson Homes site, located in Kent. Phase 3 of the project commenced over the summer, which introduced the underfloor heating and meant the team have been utilising the new UFHGRID system across plots.

The UFH Grid simplifies the installation of our Staple underfloor heating system. The dual-purpose membrane acts as a separator between insulation and screed, while the integrated layout grid ensures accurate pipe positioning. By providing a clear guide for pipework alignment, UFH Grid also helps to streamline installation times.

Reflecting on the experience, Ashley Sains, Operations Director at RMX Mechanical Ltd, highlighted how well the system integrates into day-to-day site operations:

"They’ve only just introduced the underfloor heating on phase 3 which was started back in the summer, but it’s a very nice and easy system to get down and install. The UFHGRID is spot on as well. I find taking the time to get this down helps a lot with making the install neat and helps with the setting out of walls, kitchens etc as everything lines up."

    Precision design and layout accuracy

A common pain point for installers on fast-paced sites is discrepancies between design drawings and actual on-site layouts.

    Ashley Sains noted:

"With other UFH companies we’ve used in the past, the drawings don’t always match up with what we’re working with but so far, all my drawings I’ve had from Polypipe Building Products, and layouts, match up exactly which is always nice and makes my job a lot easier."

By pairing intuitive product design with dependable installation layouts, UFHGRID is helping contractors like RMX Mechanical Ltd save valuable time on site while delivering the immaculate finish and precision demanded on modern housing developments.
