Yesterday, Polypipe Building Products hosted a highly productive morning in Leeds. We were delighted to welcome attendees from across the construction supply chain to discuss a critical topic: the evolving role of sustainability in decision-making and procurement.

The event was chaired by Matt Baird of the Social Housing Roundtable. The session explored how sustainability considerations are increasingly influencing the sector, impacting everything from initial product selection and procurement through to development and long-term reporting requirements.

Key Themes from the Discussion

It was refreshing to facilitate such an honest and open discussion regarding the real-world challenges facing those in the built environment. Our panel focused on four primary areas:

  • Sustainability in Practice: How organisations are successfully balancing modern sustainability requirements alongside the pressures of cost, performance, and project delivery.
  • Decision-Making and Commercial Realities: A deep dive into how sustainability is actively influencing product selection and investment decisions throughout the supply chain.
  • The Role of Carbon Data and EPDs: An exploration of how environmental information is currently being utilised, the challenges that persist, and the steps required to improve industry-wide adoption.
  • External Influences: Analysing the growing role of regulators, investors, and broader ESG considerations in shaping sustainability priorities
